About X-DOC

Our History

Our agency is young but rich in experience. Years spent working in the fields of translation, technical documentation and software and website localization have shown us that we can only confront the complex tasks and challenges facing us in a world of globalization by working together as a team and cooperating with experts from a variety of different fields within a worldwide network. Long gone are the times when translators worked away in isolation (if they ever really did…). After all, communication is our profession and our calling – and globalization is not a threat to our existence but just the opportunity we have been waiting for all this time!

X-DOC – Your partner for translation and technical communication.

Our Team

Team members are

Tanja Kriele

Tanja studied translating and interpreting at Heidelberg University, where she received a degree in translation. She then worked in software localization for over 12 years, first for Baan and finally for Infor. She is currently undergoing further training to become a technical writer in order to obtain an official qualification in this field too.

When she was at school, she found it difficult to decide between science and languages. Other cultures and languages have always fascinated her, which is why she completed the 12th grade at a Mexican School in Mexico City in the context of a student exchange programme.

Although she opted for science at school and then studied physics for a few semesters, the pendulum soon swung back towards languages again. She has always been (and still continues to be) interested in anything that can help to preserve this planet and the space around it, i.e. environmental engineering, renewable energy sources and climate protection. As a former regular visitor to the observatory at Heppenheim and an avid Trekkie (“Beam me up, Scotty!”), she is fascinated by astronomy and space travel too.

Her work with the rescue dog team of the St. John Ambulance Brigade brought her into contact with rescue work and emergency medicine. She knows ambulances from inside and out, and her training schedule included how to handle respirators and heart defibrillators.

Tanja actually hails from Mannheim, but her great passion for horses prompted her to move out to the plains of Northern Germany. Ever since she sat on a pony for the first time at the tender age of 3, she was hooked. This is why she spent a semester abroad at an international training stable for event horses in England. For professional reasons, riding is now “only” a hobby for her, but a few foals she reared herself have reached adulthood out where she lives.

DeAnn Cougler

DeAnn hails from the western part of the USA and from a young age she was interested in foreign languages and culture. While still in high school she took evening courses in anthropology and literature at the local college while taking French and German in school.

Once enrolled in university, she soon discovered the international program and first went on a study tour in Moscow and St. Petersburg before spending a year on a direct exchange program with Heidelberg University. In Heidelberg she was the only student from her university and was completely immersed in the German university system where she studied German and Political Science.

After completing her degree and internship in the USA, DeAnn returned to Germany where she taught commercial and technical English in Mannheim for a year before being offered a position as an in-house translator in Munich.

While employed in Munich, she worked on standardizing translations and terminology before the big advent of CAT tools. Instrumental in the introduction of translation memory systems in her division, she later moved to a centralized translation department and coordinated measures to streamline processes, improve vendor management and implement a corporate terminology management system.

A freelance consultant and translator since 2007, DeAnn enjoys analyzing situations and coming up with ideas to make translation and localization easier, faster and more profitable. Besides working directly with companies to this effect, she’s held presentations on these topics in Barcelona at the Localization World, at Tekom yearly and regional meetings, for the local chapter of the American German Business Club and, most recently, at the Tradulinguas conference on technical Translation in Portugal.

When not traveling, her spare time is spent mainly with her children, who – she is very proud to say – are well-balanced bilinguals in the local grade school and gymnasium.

Moreover, the network includes:

Partner agencies in Switzerland and the USA.
